AMST 202 - Diversity in American Life
Course Description
- Prerequisite: ENG 22/60 OR placement in ENG 100
Variety and diversity in American life; creation of a multicultural, multiracial society; distinctive outlooks shaped by ethnicity, gender, race, age and other factors.
Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of AMST 202, the student will be able to:
- Define key cultural concepts drawn from the social sciences - sociology, history, economics, political science, and the humanities and literature
- Explain the basic outline of American historical periods - events, processes, and individuals
- Write three 5+ page papers, with a draft, conference, and re-write to final paper, based on assigned novels, with a synthesis and analysis utilizing cultural concepts and insights from American history
