HIST 284 - History of the Hawaiian Islands

Course Description

  • Prerequisite: ENG 100

Survey of the social, political, and economic history of Hawaii from the earliest times to the present.

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of HIST 284, the student will be able to:

  • Demonstrate an ability to analyze and explain cause and effect relationships in Hawaii history
  • Summarize key ideas in Hawaii history
  • Demonstrate an ability to compare and contrast historical experiences
  • Describe and define major historical events, ideas, places and people
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the historical causes of current events
  • Demonstrate a knowledge of Hawaiian, Asian, and Pacific cultures and their geography, economics, politics, ecologies, history, and global impact
  • Describe the relative importance of Hawaiian, Asian, and Pacific cultures in the world context
  • Explain current issues surrounding Hawaiian, Asian, and Pacific cultures, and link them to their historical, social, and cultural roots.
