HIST 288 - Survey of Pacific Islands History

Course Description

  • Prerequisite: ENG 100

Development from precolonial to modern times; early settlement, cultural contact, colonization, contemporary problems.

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of HIST 288, the student will be able to:

  • Demonstrate an ability to analyze and explain cause and effect relationships in Pacific Islands history
  • Summarize key ideas in Pacific Islands history, including origins, beliefs, religions, and, political and economic development, including colonialism
  • Demonstrate an ability to compare and contrast historical documents and arguments
  • Describe and define major Pacific Island events, ideas, places, and people
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the historical roots of current events in the Pacific
