SP 251 - Principles of Effective Speaking
Course Description
- Prerequisite: SP 151 OR "C" or higher in ENG 100
Designed to help students prepare and present speeches; the steps necessary and the rhetorical theory behind public speaking.
Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of SP 251, the student will be able to:
- Demonstrate the ability to gather information from libraries, media and community resources.
- Demonstrate the ability to organize ideas.
- Demonstrate the ability to speak before a group.
- Demonstrate awareness of audience characteristics.
- Demonstrate appreciation of the qualities of a good speaker.
- Demonstrate an ability to undertake rhetorical criticism.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the role of non-verbal communication and language in public speaking.
- Demonstrate an appreciation of the rhetorical tradition of public speaking.
