SP 50 - Working With Clients
Course Description
- Prerequisite: ENG 20B & D & E OR ESL 11 & 13 & 14 & 17 OR placement in ENG 22/60
- Corequisite: COSM 20 and 21L
- COSM majors only
Includes knowledge and skills in communicating with and helping people in professional and personal relationships. Techniques of communicating and helping will be discussed and practiced in class.
Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of SP 50, the student will be able to:
- Define interpersonal communication.
- Demonstrate basic communication skills of communicating ideas, feelings, listening appropriately and responding in a professional way in a salon based setting.
- Understand interpersonal influences in relationships in terms of power, persuasion, and assertiveness.
- Identify and discuss management of conflict in various interpersonal relationships as pertains to Cosmetology.
- Be able to participate and/or lead small group problem solving activities.
- Communicate in work relationships and situations.
- Use communication skills in an interview.
- Recognize and interpret non-verbal messages and utilize these skills in a positive manner.
