ENG 51 - Technical Reading

Course Description

  • Prerequisite: ENG 20B & C & D & E OR "C" or higher in ESL 11 & 13 & 14 & 17 OR placement in ENG 51

Designed to develop reading skills needed for college level reading. Emphasis is on vocabulary and comprehension of technical reading material. Study skills needed for effective reading are handled.

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of ENG 51, the student will be able to:

  • Students will list recent research on how diet, exercise, sleep, and the brain affect learning.
  • Students will demonstrate basic computer skills in word processing, email, and the Internet.
  • Students will find library materials to enhance their knowledge of their technical major.
  • Students will improve their basic reading skills.
  • Students will create brain-based study materials to study the textbooks in their technical majors.
