ENG 257N - C.S. Lewis
- Prerequisite: ENG 100
This course examines the writings of C. S. Lewis and will discuss the themes, characters, images, and symbols in his novels The Chronicles of Narnia and his space trilogy. Lewis's storytelling techniques and the structure of is novels will be analyzed as will the sources and origins of his books. His non-fiction writings will also be touched upon. Lewis's artistic achievements and the relative successes of the films of his novels throughout the years in translating his novels to the cinema will be evaluated.

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of ENG 257N, the student will be able to:
- Identify and evaluate the relative importance of the origins and sources for Lewis's writings.
- Discuss symbols, images, and other literary devices Lewis uses in his books.
- Identify, discuss, and analyze in effective essays the themes that Lewis presents in his books.
- Analyze characters and the structure of Lewis's novels and write essays describing the characters and the structure in his books.
- Discuss Lewis's artistic achievements in his books.
- Write essays of informed opinion discussing the literary value of Lewis's books.
- Analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of films and television programs throughout the years of The Chronicles of Narnia in presenting Lewis's themes, characters, images, and symbols, and so on.
- Use correct grammar, effective language, and good writing style in essays about Lewis's writings.
