SPAN 201-202 - Intermediate Spanish I-II

  • Native speakers may not take language courses for credit.
  • 201 Prerequisite: SPAN 102
  • 202 Prerequisite: SPAN 201

Continuation of oral practice and grammar study; increasing emphasis on reading and written composition. Laboratory drill.

Contact: 3 hours lecture per week

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of SPAN 201-202, the student will be able to:

  • Understand and use the following grammatical structures: major verb tenses and structures (present, preterite, imperfect, commands, present subjunctive), pronouns (direct, indirect, reflexive), positive and negative expressions, and noun-adjective agreement
  • Write 200-300 word compositions
  • Read selected articles and literary excerpts of moderate difficulty
  • Listen to and understand listening comprehension passages of moderate difficulty
  • Answer series of questions in interviews with instructor
  • Discuss topics about Spanish culture and modern society
  • Have ability to communicate with native speakers of Spanish
SPAN 202
  • Understand and use the following grammatical structures: present perfect (indicative and subjunctive), present subjunctive, past subjunctive, por and para, passive voice, a and en, future, conditional, comparisons, and hypothetical situations
  • Write 200-300 word compositions
  • Read selected articles and literary excerpts of moderate difficulty
  • Listen to and understand listening comprehension passages of moderate difficulty
  • Answer series of questions in interviews with instructor
  • Discuss topics about Spanish culture and modern society
  • Have ability to communicate with native speakers of Spanish.
