HAW 201-202 - Intermediate Hawaiian
Course Description
- Native speakers may not take language courses for credit.
- 201 Prerequisite: "C" or higher in HAW 102
- 202 Prerequisite: "C" or higher in HAW 201
An Intermediate level course for students with elementary knowledge of Hawaiian language. Language learning requires competence in four areas of skill, including listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of HAW 201, the student will be able to:
- Demonstrate at least some spontaneity in language use and employ a vocabulary which centers on areas such as basic objects, places and common kinship terms
- Demonstrate an ability to ask and answer questions, initiate and respond to simple statements, social conventions, routine tasks, and receiving simple instructions and directions
- Demonstrate sufficient control of the writing system to interpret written language areas of practical need
