Language Arts
Language Arts offers courses that lead students to an enhanced appreciation of, and skill in, oral and written communication in English, English as a Second Language, Hawaiian, and several foreign languages.
Language Arts offers traditional classroom instruction, accelerated courses, cable courses, and online courses during the weekdays, evenings, and weekends at locations on and off campus.
The language Arts courses offered include many that fulfill the University of Hawaii requirements for writing intensive and core courses that lead toward the AA, AS, BA, and BS degrees including:
- ENG 100
- ENG 209
- ENG 250-257
- HAW 231
- HAW, JPNS, SPAN 101-202 and FIL 101-102
For students needing further preparation before beginning ENG 100 or ENG 120, Language Arts offers ENG 22, which focuses on grammar and short writing assignments, and ENG 51 and ENG 60, which focus on developing reading and writing skills for occupational technical students.
For non-native speakers of English, Language Arts offers a comprehensive ESL program that includes credit and non-credit courses and an intensive sixteen-week program. Students who successfully complete the second level of credit courses or the intensive program can take ENG 22 or 60.
