JPNS 101-102 - Elementary Japanese I-II
Course Description
- Native speakers may not take language courses for credit.
- 101 Prerequisite: "C" or higher in ENG 22 OR placement in ENG 100 or instructor approval
- 102 Prerequisite: JPNS 101
Development of listening, speaking, reading, writing. Structural points introduced inductively. Laboratory work is required.
Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of JPNS 101, the student will be able to:
- Listen to approximately 400 Japanese words and ten patterns and comprehend 85% of these expressions.
- Use approximately 300 words and ten patterns with 85% accuracy in pronunciation and grammar.
- speak elementary level of Japanese using the above words and patterns.
- read 96 Japanese symbols with 28 variations and four writing rules with 90% accuracy.
- write the above symbols with 70% accuracy.
Upon successful completion of JPNS 102, the student will be able to:
- Learn approximately 400 words and 40 patterns, and comprehend 85% of these expressions.
- Use approximately 300 words and 30 patterns in addition to those covered in Japanese 101.
- Speak elementary level of Japanese with more fluency in pronunciation and larger vocabulary than in 101 level.
- Learn approximately 150 Kanji out of which he/she will be able to write at least 100 in sentences with 75% accuracy.
