Course Description
- Prerequisite: CHEM 151 (or concurrent) or CHEM 161 (or concurrent) or Instructor Approval
- Corequisite: BIOL 171L
- Recommended Prep: High School Biology
Introductory biology for all life science majors. Cell structure and chemistry; growth, reproduction, genetics, evolution, viruses, bacteria and simple eukaryotes.
Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of BIOL 171, the student will be able to:

- comprehend and apply critical thinking skills in the study of biology

- The scientific method and its application to the study of biology

- Basic building blocks of biological organisms

- The function and regulation of organisms by expression of genetic material
- Relationship between genetics, evolution and the creation of new organisms
- The diversity of biological organisms
