CHEM 152L - Survey of Organic & Bioorganic Chemistry Laboratory
Course Description
- Prerequisite: CHEM 151L or 171L
- Prerequisite or Corequisite: CHEM 152
Techniques of preparation, purification, identification of organic compounds. May be taken on a CR/N basis.
Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of CHEM 152L, the student will be able to:

- Measure mass using chemical balances
- Measure liquid volume using graduated cylinders, pipets, and burets

- Observe physical properties of chemicals
- Prepare solutions
- Perform dilutions
- Titrate samples using a buret
- Perform and observe chemical reactions
- Prepare tables and graphs of experimental data
- Write laboratory reports in the scientific format
- Construct molecular models of compounds and study geometries
- Devise and test modifications of chemical reactions
- Measure solution absorbance using a spectrometer
- Purify reaction mixtures
- Perform chromatographic separations of mixtures
- Extract compounds from natural sources
