CHEM 55 - Fundamentals of Cosmetic Chemistry
Course Description
- Prerequisite or Corequisite: COSM 30 and 31L
- COSM majors only
Application of chemical principles to cosmetology. The course content will include: atomic structure, chemical bonding, acids and bases, hair structure, shampoos, bleaches and tints, waving and hair straightening.
Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of CHEM 55, the student will be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of the scientific method.
- Demonstrate an understanding the scientific concepts behind the methods and procedures used in treating hair, skin, and fingernails.
- Recognize the chemical nature of the compounds in hair, skin, fingernails, and cosmetic preparations.
