PHYS 51V - Technical Physics

Course Description

  • Prerequisite: MATH 20B & C & D OR placement in MATH 50/53

Introductory applied physics (computer-based). Subjects covered will vary with the student’s major and may include measurements, simple machines, rotary motion, hydraulics and fluids, statics and equilibrium, force and motion, energy, thermodynamics and gases. Credit varies with student’s major.

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of PHYS 51v, the student will be able to:

  • Identify and relate problems in their trade or profession to physical principles learned in the course.
  • Be able formulate the problems into a solution structure using the fundamental concepts and basic equations.
  • Solve the equations to provide reasonable qualitative and quantitative results.
  • Explain the results within the framework of the Physical Principles.
  • Estimate the magnitude of similar problems and under varying situations.
