GEOG 101 - The Natural Environment
Course Description
- Prerequisite: Placement in ENG 22/60
An introduction to physical geography: distribution and interrelationships of climates, vegetation, soils, landforms - with special emphasis on Hawaii. Fulfills Natural Sciences core requirement
Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of GEOG 101, the student will be able to:
- Understand how maps are basically made, their advantages and limitations, and purposes; and demonstrate a knowledge of and an ability to interpret and use a wide variety of maps.
- Understand what the sun and the earth's energy systems do to the earth and its living organisms, how they do it, and where they do it.
- Explain the significance and distribution, and the patterns and processes of the following physical phenomena: climate, vegetation, soils, and landforms; and know where these phenomena take place.
