Social Sciences
"The Social Sciences" is that group of courses which help us understand SOCIAL RELATIONSHIPS. They help us develop our ability to work with other people and understand and appreciate human diversity.
The Social Sciences courses offered include many which fulfill the University of Hawaii requirements for core courses toward the AA, AS, BA and BS degrees including:
- Anthropology - On working with and learning from people of different cultures.
- Economics - On analyzing markets, understanding national economic policy and learning how the economy operates.
- Family Resources - On families in our diverse culture.
- Geography - On understanding physical and cultural places and regions.
- Political Science - On how people, institutions and nations interact politically.
- Psychology - On how people think and behave.
- Sociology - On understanding how society functions.
- Women's Studies - On the contributions and perspectives of women.
If you want to learn how to work successfully with other people in our complex global economy and how to manage a business or service these courses will help you succeed. If you want to understand and solve problems in your personal life, family or community these courses will help you win.
Many of our faculty and students have won awards for excellence in teaching and learning.
