SOC 100 - Survey of General Sociology
Course Description
- Prerequisite: Placement in ENG 22/60
Basic social relationships, norms, social structures and processes affecting social change.
Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of SOC 100, the student will be able to:
- Possess the basic vocabulary of the discipline
- Understand major sociological theoretical approaches
- Comprehend and be able to employ basic statistical concepts
- Recognize strengths and weaknesses of basic sociological research methods
- Write well organized sociological essays that involve the use of social theory and social scientific terminolog
- Conduct a small scale original observation research project; collect and analyze the data; and write a coherent original research paper
- Develop and utilize the sociological imagination
- Gain a greater appreciation for cultural diversity and the lessons that can be learned from other societies
