Introduction to Design-2D
Course Description: Basic design concepts, elements and principles of organization. Emphasizes problem-solving and technical skills, with an introduction to use of computers. (3 credits)
Recommended Preparation: ENG 22/60 and MATH 22, 50 or higher.
Course Objectives and Outcomes: At the end of the course the student should be able to:
Assessment: Student work will be assessed on the basis
of a series of hands-on studio assignments structured to engage the problem-solving
process and the application of specific design principles. A final cumulative
portfolio evaluation will also be included. Specific criteria of assessment
are provided for individual studio assignments.
Methods of Instruction: Teaching and learning will take place through a series of structured studio and field assignments, lecture/demonstrations, and individual and group critiques in which student work is analyzed for its strengths and areas of recommended improvement.
