COURSE DESCRIPTION – 130: This course is a study of some of the plants which grow in Hawaii. Plants will be identified and discussed in regard to their form and structure. Evolution and ecology of the plants will also be considered.

COURSE DESCRIPTION – 130L: Laboratories will involve application of lecture material and several field trips to various parts of Oahu. (4 credits)

PREREQUISITE: none

COREQUISITE: Bot. 130 and Bot. 130L are corequisite to each other. You must take both together.

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES: The student will

Methods of Evaluation: Your final grade will be based on the total number of points that you receive out of a possible 300 points. Thirty of those points will be based upon your development of laboratory and field techniques. There will be no make-up examinations without a written doctor's excuse. If you miss an examination unexcused you will receive no points for that examination and a zero will be averaged with your final grade.

Examinations:

First Lecture Examination: 50 points
Second Lecture Examination: 50 points
Third Lecture Examination: 50 points
Fourth Lecture Examination: 50 points

First lab. Examination: 20 points
Second lab. Examination: 25 points
Third lab. Examination: 25 points
Lab & Field Technique: 30 points        Total Points = 300

Points Needed for Letter Grades:

300-270 = A = 100-90%
269-240 = B = 89-80%
239-180 = C = 79-60%
179-150 = D = 59-50%
149-0 = F = Below 50%
